Advantages and disadvantages of zirconia ceramics
The performance of zirconia ceramics is superior to other ceramics, with high melting and boiling points, high hardness, as an insulator at room temperature, and at high temperature, it has excellent properties such as electrical conductivity. Nowadays, zirconia ceramics are widely used in various fields, so when enterprises and manufacturers want to choose zirconia ceramics, how should they look at its advantages and disadvantages?
Advantages of zirconia ceramics:
1, high strength, good toughness, can be made into mechanical parts, such as push rod, connecting rod, bearing, cylinder liner piston cap, etc. Semiconductor properties, can be made into high temperature heating elements.
2, zirconia ceramics have high hardness, Mohs hardness of 8.5-9.1, can be made into cold forming tools, ceramic rod processing molding mold, wire drawing mold, cutting tools, etc.
3, insulation, no metal, electroplating pollution, is the ideal environmental protection materials for the watch industry. Rich in color, hard, beautiful and durable, does not damage the skin, revealing a unique luster, multi-color ceramic case, bezel, dial, buckle, case and other products, texture, visual otherworldly, is a popular choice for many electronic products.
4, zirconia industrial ceramics hardness close to natural diamond, lighter than metal, with never wear, no color and other gem characteristics.
5, high anti-wear, never rust, never change color, never stimulate the skin.
About the shortcomings of zirconia material:
zirconia has three crystal forms: monoclinic, 4 square, cubic phase. At room temperature, zirconia only appears as a monoclinic phase, which is transformed into a 4 square phase when heated to about 1100℃, and will be transformed into a cubic phase when heated to a higher temperature.
Due to the larger volume change in the monoclinic to the 4 direction, the larger volume change will occur in the opposite direction when cooling, which is easy to cause cracking of the product, limiting the use of pure zirconia in the field of high temperature.
